Accident of 1991 Chevy S-10 Pickup (Page 2)

The below picture is of the old rocker panel removed.  The inner panel was undamaged with mild rust on the panel next to the wheel.

Here is the new rocker panel aligned and welded.  Plug welds were brazed in to secure the panel.  Much better then the hole that was there previously.

Below is the seam I brazed, along with my father securing the lower portion of the new rocker panel.

Here is a final shot of the rocker panel installed.  My dad is on the ground finishing up.

Now with a majority of the body work complete, it's time to prep this truck for winter.  The plan is to paint everything that isn't visible now, then in the spring just nail the side of the truck with paint and be done (UPDATE:  We repainted the whole truck).  Below is the door opening/rocker panel painted.

Below are the door and the fender painted.  With the interior of the door removed, the outside was taped off and the door was painted black.  This way when the truck is painted in the spring, the door jams will be the right color.  The same was done with the fender. (It's smooth, the picture is just compressed).

After letting the paint dry, all that was left was the re-assembly of the truck.  The door interior was replaced with the original, with the exception of the door lock/power window trim.

And finally, the completed truck.  As it stands now, it's just a little bit better then when we started.  We removed a lot of rust and added a power door.  On the down side, she needs paint, finish up the bed body work (it was worked back into shape, but is still wrinkled).  The mechanical potion of this project is complete, click the link below to continue on to body work and paint...
