1984 Grand National Wheels on my 1991 Chevy S-10 Pickup
Before my truck was in an accident back in October of '03, I wanted to upgrade the 14" Mag wheels (seen a few pictures below) to something larger. I had a spare 1984 Buick Regal Grand National wheel (below) and liked the looks of it, so I decided to find a set. Thanks to eBay I got hooked up with a set. Unfortunately they weren't quite as described and needed quite a bit of work.
I don't have any pictures of them when I got them, but I spent about 12 hours total cleaning them up. I started with a course steel wool and worked my way up to a scotch bright pad. I polished 2 of them with my dremel, but they came out too shiny. By this point, I had repainted my truck and started my Turbo Regal Clone project. I needed to bring the black down to aluminum, but the paint on these wheels wouldn't budge. After trying one in bright silver, I decided to go with the center body color, Astral Silver (darker). Below is a shot of a just been painted taped wheel.
The center of the wheel is normally aluminum but they were so dirty and hard to clean I painted them too. With the wheels set, I needed tires. No problem here, my Buick has BF Goodrich Radial TA's...they must go on. Below is a picture of my truck wearing my Buick's wheels and tires...
Once I got them mounted and cleaned I took a comparison photo with my old wheels/tires.
Next few shots are on the truck. I'm in the process of putting it back together, so please excuse the lack of a good full shot. When I get one, it will be on the main page...
Thanks for looking. If I had to do it all over again I would have gotten a set of clean 86-87 wheels so I wouldn't have had to work/paint them. This project ran me just under $800 bucks...wheels, tires, cleaning supplies, and 20 new lugs.
